The wheels don’t retract. They are completely removable. After replacing the heel cavities with heel plugs, Heelys are like a normal pair of shoes.

Those are not Heelys. Heelys come with a single or double wheel in the heel.

Are there Heelys with two wheels?
Actually, there is. The two-wheel models come with two staggered wheels in the heel. They are great for first-time heelers because two wheels provide more stability and balance. Once the heeler is ready for one wheel, the smaller training wheel can be removed.
